Landscapes, nudes, coastal and beach scenes, the well-known series that include Volkswagen ‘Beetles’, Kombi, Holden, Minis and Morris Minors; NZ’s Pukekos, Cabbage Trees, Flaxes and Pohutukawa; down-under barbeques, café scenes, jazz, dance or abstract pieces are all subjects for Rob McGregor’s paintings.
Having travelled widely, works also depict aspects of life in France, Greek Islands, Bangkok’s Rambutri and Khao San Road, for example.
Tractors and dinghies on the beach, his barbed-wire series of paintings, the tongue-in-cheek set: ‘The Fine Art of Conversation’ [where he pokes fun at the ubiquitous mobile phone] tell stories familiar to all New Zealanders.
